Description:

College Physics of Nano-Devices

10 - 21 July 2006

Miramare, Trieste, Italy

This Summer College will review the state of the art in the experiment and theory of quantum nano-systems and nano-structured materials. Lecture courses will encompass: (a) Luttinger liquid in quantum wires, Kondo effect, transport and dynamical properties of quantum dots, issues of phase coherence and de-coherence in qubits; (b) new materials and systems, such as ultra-thin graphite films, nano-mechanical/electro-mechanical systems; (c) mesoscopic electromagnetics, optics of quantum dots and microcavity lasers, Bose-Einstein condensation of excitons; (d) coherent manipulation of cold atomic gases, atoms trapped in optical lattices. Lectures will be complemented with discussions, tutorials and poster sessions.

Scientists and students from all countries which are members of the UN, UNESCO or IAEA may attend the School. The main purpose of the Centre is to help researchers from developing countries, within a framework of international cooperation; however, scientists from developed countries are also welcome to attend.

Since ICTP activities are conducted in English, participants should have an adequate working knowledge of this language.

As a rule, travel and subsistence expenses of participants should be borne by their home institution. Every effort should be made by candidates to secure support for their fare (or at least half-fare). However, limited funds are available for some participants who are nationals of, and working in, a developing country. There is also a limited I2CAM support for young researchers affiliated in USA. Any support is available only for those attending the entire activity. There is no registration fee.

The Application Form can be downloaded at: http://agenda.ictp.it/smr.php?1760 or requested from the activity Secretariat at: E-mail: smr1760@ictp.it

It should be completed and returned before 15 April 2006 to:
